The week of January 7, 2024, was a peculiar and revealing one in the field of Ufology.
On January 12th, a closed-door Congressional hearing took place with Intelligence Inspector General Thomas Monheim and members of The House Oversight & Advisory Committee. Those exiting the 90-minute hearing seemed disappointed, feeling no closer to lifting the Pentagon’s secrecy regarding UAPs.
In the same week, intelligence whistleblower David Grusch attended a private party hosted by a cryptocurrency expert in New York, where he hinted at dealing with time-traveling, dimension-penetrating crafts.
Additionally, on January 11th, filmmaker Jeremy Corbell released the Jellyfish UAP video. This 17-minute (or possibly 30-minute) video shows a Jellyfish-shaped UFO over a joint American-Iraqi air force base near Lake Hibernia, supposedly filmed in October 2018 (or 2017). The public has only seen snippets, raising numerous issues.
MUFON’s six-man Photo Analysis Team (PAT) examined the video but reached no consensus on what the Jellyfish UAP is, except that it is most likely NOT alien. The snippets released were labeled “raw video” in a January 11, 2024, USA Today article quoting Corbell. However, these snippets lack electronic signature (EXIF) data, crucial for verifying authenticity, suggesting the videos are not raw. It appears the snippets are video screen grabs from a television, lacking essential EXIF data.
Questions arise regarding how a tethered balloon camera could track the object for so long. Initial reports described the object as capable of submerging and re-emerging from water, suggesting trans-medium capability, but this claim remains unverified.
Corbell states the video is 30 minutes long, with the object disappearing underwater for 17 minutes before shooting off at high speed. This key portion remains unseen. Additionally, the location of the sighting is disputed, with reports placing it over Lake Habbaniyah and the Persian Gulf, 500 miles apart.
Furthermore, there are inconsistencies regarding the object’s visibility. It was claimed to be invisible on a thermographic camera, yet two individuals on the ground seemed to notice it. Without identifying these individuals, this claim remains unsubstantiated.
The surveillance systems likely used are the MX series cameras. MUFON’s PAT suggests the object traveled at about 25 mph, covering 5.6 miles in 17 minutes. It could be a drone filming a drone rather than a tethered blimp camera.
Pentagon spokesperson Susan Gough stated the DOD does not comment on the authenticity of alleged DOD material. Unlike the 2004 Tic Tac video, the Jellyfish video lacks identifying information, making it difficult to determine the object’s speed and direction.
Corbell claims the DOD classified the object as a UAP. However, discrepancies remain, including the object’s ability to change color. One analyst suggested the background atmosphere could cause the color change rather than temperature fluctuations.
The object’s resemblance to a jellyfish with rigid tentacles raises further questions. Possible terrestrial explanations include a balloon cluster, camera artifact, jetpack-equipped human, or a humanoid drone with a Ghillie suit.
In conclusion, MUFON finds no evidence suggesting alien intervention. The most likely explanations are:
- A balloon cluster
- An internal or external lens blemish (artifact)
- A jetpacking human soldier
- A humanoid surveillance drone in a Ghillie Suit utilizing quadcopter propeller levitation
